Devious Acai Scam Finally Uncovered
Cast your mind back a year. Acai pills were just starting to become popular, and companies on the Internet were just starting to introduce free trials. The free trials, it turned out, were huge scams. Unfortunately I was early enough in to be caught by this scam without knowing anything about it. I paid $5.99 for shipping and handling on a bottle of Acai. The product came, I used it, and I wasn’t that impressed. I decided not to take any more from this particular company. This company, by the way, was Central Coast Nutraceuticals.
Fifteen days later I received a package containing a bottle of Acai berry. I knew for a fact that I hadn’t ordered this, so I set about trying to contact CCN to complain, and to get the charge reversed. No such luck. Contact with this rogue company proved impossible.
Fast forward to last month, and we see a huge settlement – to the tune of $1,375,000, in fact – against CCN for exactly these kind of practices. The settlement was in response to the charge raised by Atty Gen Terry Goddard for “ using deceptive on line advertising and sales practices”. That seems to fit my experience perfectly.
I still use it, but I buy now from reputable acai berry dealers, I do not get lured in by “too good to be true” free trial offers. Shop wisely. And good riddance to CCN and their scamming ways.
